Program Description

With only nine students back in 2013, the Newbury Park High School Orchestra has grown to a program with over sixty members and with four levels of orchestral instruction (Acorn Article: "Almost Silenced, NPHS Orchestra Experiences Rebirth"). The Orchestra has consistently earned Superior ratings at the Southern California Band and Orchestra Festival, and select students have performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall. The program has received first place at the 2022 & 2019 Anaheim Heritage Festival and 2015 Heritage Festival in San Diego. The orchestra has also performed in California's very own Segerstorm Concert Hall in March 2017 as part of an invitation-only Heritage Festival of Gold performance tour. Check out clips of the various performing ensembles under "Pictures & Videos" and read about all the strings courses under "Course Offerings."

In April 2023, a select group of NPHS Strings students participated in an invitation-only 4-day Festival of Gold extravaganza in Chicago, IL, as a result of the orchestra's first-place finish in the World Strides Heritage Festival Competition. In addition to touring Chicago landmarks, the students received clinics from world-class clinicians, including Northwestern University Orchestra Professor Dr. Robert Hasty, and performed in the prestigious Orchestra Hall, home to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Congratulations to these incredible musicians!
